Tasteful over Tacky Garden Decor

Attractive landscapes are a result of ongoing maintenance and thoughtful planting of trees, shrubs and gardens. For added style and beauty, consider tasteful garden accessories such as pathway lights, garden stones and decorative structures.  These types of accessories are best described as garden accents in that they compliment either the natural landscape or style of the home. Whereas, lawn ornaments such as plastic garden stakes and whimsical stone structures are down-right tacky. Keep in mind that over-accessorizing is just as detrimental as letting your lawn get overgrown.

Begin decorating by installing lights along walkways and driveways. The options of  outdoor lights are endless, but select ones that provide ambiance at night, and blend into the landscape during the day. Great options are ground pot-lights, or  small pathway lights of a copper or black shade.

Building stone paths and placing large rocks throughout your lawn and garden is a fully natural way to decorate. Circular ceramic and concrete garden stones are a thing of the past, use natural stones instead. The more angular the stones, the more modern the look.

Birdbaths and fountains are decorative garden structures best suited for the backyard. Choose newer versions made of metal or copper over ceramic and stone, and be sure to keep them free of mildew and debris to not ruin the appeal.
